Its been a long time since my last entry. With the beginning of the new year I thought it was a good opportunity to reflect on what 2018 was....
*At the first review at the beginning of the year I was given good news...the MRI showed no growth.
*Through my work place I saw a chronic pain specialist. This man was amazing. He has managed to halve the dose of Lyrica I take per day by putting me on another antidepressant that is used for nerve pain.
*A recent MRI showed small growth in the remaining acoustic neuroma. Luckily this growth is horizontal so there is room for it grow.
To preserve what hearing I have left, Dr Nick would like to debulk the AN. He also spoke about clinical trials that are happening in the U.K. at the moment using the morning after pill (of all things!). I agreed that if it comes to Australia I would be more than happy to participate in the trial.
Next MRI is scheduled for November.
Dr Nick advised that it would be a good idea to begin learning Auslan.
-It is no surprise that I went to see Kasey Chambers again! This was concert #5, something I am so very grateful for.
-I also went to see Celion Dion which was unbelievably amazing.
-I ticked off the ballet with a local performance and saw a live theatre production of Calamity Jane (one of my all time favourite movies).
Children's Tumour Foundation...
*My only fundraiser for the year...a high tea. We raised just over $1000. A great effort.
*Participated in the NF Hero March (along with family and friends).
*Attended the Gala Dinner the foundation hosted.
*Gave consumer feedback on the NF2 brochure that the foundation have developed and my picture is on the front cover!
*Became a Stampin Up
Demonstrator and held my first card class.
*Went to Darwin to visit my brother and sister.
*Through work I became envolved with the Empowering Women program run by Disabilities Victoria. I sat on the Reference Committee as well as being a Mentor.
My mentee, Kate and I have been working together to achieve Kates goal of becoming independent with her new hobby cardmaking. A woman after my own heart. I am blessed to have met Kate and her mum Kristine. I'm sure we have began a life long friendship.
*Through the stroke of good luck I was blessed with an operation free year.
Every day is a challenge, same days are harder than others. Getting some form of health and fitness back in to my daily schedule is a priority for 2019. I hope to loose some of the weight that I have gained since my surgery which in turn will hopefully ease the back pain that I have been having.
I, along with work colleagues, am beginning an online course in Auslan tomorrow. By having the support of others I do think it will help me to stay motivated although knowing that I may need this is in the future should be motivation enough.
I have made a promise to myself to find a happy work-life balance in 2019. My health is my number one priority.
I thank everyone for the support that I continue to receive. I am so blessed to have such an amazing support network around me. X
Card making with mentee and friend Kate.
