Here I am again, Royal Melbourne 1 centre outpatients department. A place I have come to know well. A place that causes me to be on edge the minute I walk through the door. Today would be no different. Today I would finally see Proffesor Kaye (two weeks after being told about the growth) or so I thought.
After waiting a record of only 10 minutes my number flashed up on the screen. In the room waiting for me was the same registrar that I saw 2 weeks earlier. We got talking and I soon discovered that today would really be a waste of an appointment as I should have seen the ENT, Proffesor Briggs before I could discuss the surgery with Professor Kaye. The one good thing to come out of today's appointment was to highlight that I had not yet had a CT scan of the brain, a requirement for the ENT appointment. The registrar managed to pull a few strings and get me booked in an hour later. CT scans, I found out are a piece of cake compared to having an MRI. The only negative is the thought that I wet my pants after having the contrast, thankfully the nurse did warn me that I would get this sensation and not to be alarmed!
Despite not having seen Professor Kaye today I still have come away feeling like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The registrar took the time to answer all the questions I had, relieving me of the anxiety that has been with me for the last two weeks. He explained that as soon as the operation planning is complete, the surgery could be anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months away (post America).
Next step is the ENT appointment Tuesday....
