Im not very good at writing or expressing my feelings. But hear goes.
The night before Kylies op was the worst I had ever experienced. Her back operation was also horrible with not knowing what the outcome would be but the head was a whole different ball game.
Sleep was impossible. I was up drinking tea + coffee at 2.00am after going to bed at midnight
I arrived at the hospital at 5.30.am . Where I meet Kyles + Brad.
On entering the pre admittance area the power went out + stayed out for quite awhile. We were all sitting there wandering whether the op would go ahead. In the time we were there the power cut in + out several times. Looking back now I would hope it was a sign my Mum + Dad were looking over Kyles and keeping her safe.
We meet Kyles new surgeon that morning Nick Hall. He was absolutely wonderful. He took his time to explain all aspects of the operation + answer any questions.
Then before we knew it Kyles was taken into the OR.
That was the start of a very long day. Brad + I spent our time in the canteen + the waiting room of the high dependency unit. I never knew how slow time can go while waiting for that phone call.
I was a nervous wreck. I just needed to know my baby girl was going to come back to me + be ok.
9.5hrs later Brads phone finally rang. It was the surgeon to tell us she was almost done. He explained that the operation was more complicated than expected but was pleased with what he had done.
Then came the long wait for Kyles to come out of recovery back to the high dependency unit. The wait was horrific. I knew I could not settle until I had seen her. One of the neurosurgeon came + reassured us that Kyles was doing well. At about 7.00pm Nick Hall came + spoke to us again. He went through the operation with us. Explained everything + answered all questions. I cannot praise this man enough. He is a wonderful man with the best bedside manner .
About 9.30pm we finally got to see her. She had lots of wires , drips etc connected to her. She had a masive turbine bandage wrapped around her head. She looked terrible but she was alive .
I thank God that my brave little girl has come through an extremely dangerous operation. Day by day she is continuing to recover . Taking one day at a time.
