Auslan, the sign language of the Australian Deaf Community, is something that I have always been interested in learning and may now be my method of communication in the years to come. It's only now that I have had a couple of lessons that I realise what a challenge learning Ausland is going to be. What makes it easier is having a wonderful teacher to help me along the way. I have been very lucky to come in contact with Michelle through a work colleague. Michelle's enthusiasm for the language is displayed in her patience and the way her face lights up when she explains things to me. Her passion is what inspires me to grasp sign language.
A memorable moment was when Michelle asked me to show her the sign for boy. I did what I thought the sign was and Michelle began to giggle. "That's the sign for lesbian" she said.
Boy and lesbian are signs I will never forget!
