Last evening I had a lovely diner with family at a restaurant in the city. The only problem was the noise. As I entered the venue I had to take a second look at the sign to make sure that it was a restaurant as the noise that greeted me was more like what you would expect upon entering a nightclub. The place was chock a block with people chatting loudly and r&b music was blaring from the stereo system. The bare walls and solid concrete floor was only amplifying the noise and I knew I was in for a long night with the noise playing merry hell with my sensitive ears.
I attempted to engage myself in the conversation however as I looked around the table, I struggled to read people's lips let alone hear what they were saying. As the night progressed I got disheartened at the situation and began to tune out.
The truth is I am not sure how I could have fixed the problem. I am positive that the venue would not have turned down the music on account of me and I can not stay at home every evening socially isolating myself from the world because I have a hearing impairment.
Lucky for me the second venue we attended was much quieter and I was able to join in on the laughs for the rest of the evening. You can never have too many laughs 😀
