I feel like I am still floating amongst the clouds after the amazing day I had on Thursday.
My beautiful friend Sharon had lead me to believe that she had won a pamper night at crown and asked me to join her. I had no reason to question this as Sharon was always winning competitions.
The day began with a phone call from 3AW wanting to interview me on the radio after reading an article that was written about my ‘hearing bucket list’ in the local paper (I am yet to read the article myself!). I was so nervous but excited to spread awareness about NF on air. After the massive high of the interview with Neil Mitchell I received a call from the producer of the project who had heard my interview on the radio. I could not believe my luck! My dreams of getting NF in the spotlight were about to come true.
I was still on the phone to the producer of the project when Sharon and I stepped out of the lift to be greeted by “crown staff” who were waiting for us to provide feedback as part of the competition. I watched as Sharon was hooked up to a microphone and did think to myself, gee these people take their feedback seriously! They must have read my mind as I was told that the feedback session would be taped for educational purposes. I told the producer I had to call her back (when really all I wanted to do was skip the feedback session...did they not realise I was talking to the project?!!). After I was hooked up to a microphone we were instructed to go into the next office.
When I entered the room a large camera greeted me before my eyes focussed on Fifi Box. Admittedly I was still completely unaware what was going on at the stage. I could not believe how bizarre my morning had been and now Fox FM were here! It turns out Sharon had organised a “Fox to the rescue” so rather than the crown stay being about a competition Sharon had won it was indeed all about me! I couldn’t believe my eyes and my ears when Kasey Chambers walked in to the room playing the guitar and singing the Captain. It was music to my ears. When she had finished Byron started chanting encore so after asking me what I would like to hear Kasey serenaded me with her song Pony!
When she had finished I ran to her and threw my arms around her. We had a conversation about the “Sneaky” penguin I gave her when I last met her and I was so pleased to hear she still had him. I told her I had been to concert number 5 and she said she would give me tickets to her Melbourne concert in September!
I will be forever grateful to Fox FM for a dream come true. After all it’s not every day you get serenaded by your idol Kasey Chambers! This is the sound that I will take with me into the silent world.
However the one thing that disappoints me is everything I said about NF was cut when the clip was edited and due to the morning events the Project were unable to have me on the show. The video has now had 14K views! Imagine the exposure this would have had for NF! I am still silently hoping the Project will help me spread awareness about NF one day.
A huge thank you to Sharon for arranging this amazing experience for me. You are truly one amazing friend ❤️🐧
